It might very well be one of the greatest foreign films I've ever seen! And I've seen my fair share.. What I love about this film is that the budget is only 800,000 dollars and it's made around 15 million dollars all around the world. You can imagine this little film getting a lot more attention after the Oscars because, it's nominated in two categories.. Which is quite rare for foreign films. Not only is it nominated in the category of "Best Foreign Language Film of the Year" but also in the category of "Best Writing, Original Screenplay"! It's a strong contender, hopefully it will win "Best Foreign Film" as it's easily one of the most powerful foreign films you'll see! It also has a very solid spot on IMDB's Top 250!

There's so much to admire about this little giant! A large part of the film, almost the entire film, was shot with a handheld camera and it's the first film EVER to win three bears at the "Berlin International Film Festival" so don't be too surprised when it'll win it's Oscar! It also won the Golden Globe this year, making it Iran's first film to ever win a Golden Globe!

It is the story of a married couple faced with a dilemma of either moving to another country to make their daughters's life better or to stay in Iran to look after the husband's father who is suffering from Alzheimers.

What I love about foreign films is that they NEVER "hold back". They're usually very raw, genuine and you almost never get to see that shallow Hollywood bullshit. Foreign films just don't feel fake at all... This movie definitely does not hold back. You have to give most of the praise to director and writer of this film, Asghar Farhadi. What a brilliant mind! This is easily one of the most flawlessly written films I've seen in a very long time. I can't recall anything having as sharp of a dialogue as this. It stings you, yet you cannot stop watching as you get caught in the downward spiral that is "A Separation".

Finally a movie that shows people a normal side of Iran. That it's NOT all war or something like that. There are way too many people out there who have a lot of ridiculous misconceptions about Iran.

Peyman Maadi who plays the husband, "Nader" is brilliant. He's really a father who wants all the best for his daughter although his father is suffering from Alzheimer's.. he feels as if he can't leave his father behind. He has a very beautiful relationship with his father and is very loyal to him and sticking by his side to "give back" for raising him so well.. Leila Hatami plays the wife, "Simin" who wants the best for her daughter although at times it feels she would rather leave Iran for her own sake.. She's quite naive. Sareh Bayat is in her first role ever, which even landed her a diploma of honor for Best Actress in a Suporting role as well as a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival! I personally think she's one of the best things about the film! She certainly makes an interesting character. Sarina Farhadi, who plays the daughter in the film also happens to be the daughter of the director... although she too is one of the most interesting actresses in the film. This being her first film makes her a wonder indeed. Shahab Hosseini is my absolute favorite actor in the entire film. What a powerful performance, all actors involved did an amazing job but somehow Shahab stood out so very brightly. Amazing. I can't praise the actors and actresses enough. What a home run of a film!

I'll just say it right now... I think it's an absolute fucking disgrace that this film did NOT get nominated for "Best Motion Picture of the Year" at the Oscars. It should be taking the place of a few "kiss-ass films".

This is the underdog of the year of cinema and it WILL win at least one Oscar.. How sweet it will be! I know I will be jumping out of joy.

Some of you may complain that this film is too long, but you know what? Go screw yourselves... I personally think that with all these amazing actors, the flawlessly sharp dialogue, I would be happy to sit through another hour. However it might confuse you, it's quite messy, but hey, that's life! If you're easily confused by films, maybe you shouldn't even be watching this one? But then I keep wondering what a shame it would be if you missed out on it..

If I were rich, I'd support ANY of the films that this director and writer has lined up in the future... This is a film actors can only dream of being a part of!

Do yourself a favor and see this film. You won't regret it. I can't wait to see this film again. Maybe I'll like it even more the next time when I'll pick up things I didn't remember or notice? Easily one of the best films of the year!

As this is a low budget film from Iran, I want to advise you all to please get ahold of this film in a legal way. Buy or rent the DVD. It's worth it...

My rating: 10/10

My review of "Kung Fu Panda 2"

Alright, is it just me, or am I the only one who thinks that this sequel is much better than the first film?

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the first film, I just thought it was a little empty. Oh well, maybe I just don't remember it very well. I remember however that this film brought me more laughs than the first one.. I love that this is directed by a woman, Jennifer Yuh. I personally would love Hollywood to give more chances to women. There simply aren't enough female directors in Hollywood.

I just feel as if this film is more action packed, more lovable. We finally get to see "Po" the panda as a baby! However the plot is focused on a villian peacock by the name of "Shen" who plans to conquer China with a big deadly weapon. A peacock as villain is a little questionable but understandable later on as he's suppose to have some feelings too. Though, it is a movie for children after all. AMAZING voice work by Gary Oldman as "Shen".

It's very cool to see all of the original cast back in the sequel but there are also some new voices, Dennis Haysbert as "Master Storming Ox", Michelle Yeoh as "Soothsayer", Danny McBride as "Wolf Boss", Victor Garber as "Master Thundering Rhino" and the biggest disappointment of all, Jean-Claude Van Damme as "Master Croc". He says what, two lines in the whole film? Very underused in the film... unfortunately. The "Kung Fu Panda" series probably has the greatest cast ever though..

I saw this film in 2-D but I can imagine this film being much cooler and even better in 3-D!

This film will bring the child out of you but will at the same time make the grown up in you somewhat emotional! However, even though this film is nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Animated Feature Film of the Year" I can't help but think that this is still one of the weakest in that category. The only one I haven't seen is "Puss in Boots" but I liked the other ones more than "Kung Fu Panda 2". Maybe because I have a thing against sequels... I just feel as if making a sequel is "cheating" in a way. It's basically taking an idea and milking it, dragging it out. Basically you already have an idea of a big part of the movie. It's very rare for me to like all the characters so much in a film that I want a sequel.

Although, I still think it's very enjoyable and I do recommend it!

My rating: 7/10

My review of "Albert Nobbs"

What a remarkable little film! Very happy that it got nominated for three Academy Awards. The first goes to Glenn Close in the category "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role" and my god she plays it brilliantly! She plays a woman disguised as a man in order to work and survive in Ireland. The movie is set in the 19th century and her dream is to open up a little shop. How does a woman play a man? Well, most women would just do the darkest voice they could possible come up with. Glenn Close does not. She does it "just enough". Obviously you can hear she's a woman but it's not all about the voice, she captures the gestures quite brilliantly. She also plays someone who is a little awkward with people. So, are you getting this? Glenn Close plays a woman, who plays a man who has to play someone who's put in an uncomfortable situation. Very worthy Oscar nomination for Glenn Close and I couldn't be happier for her! She plays it so very well indeed but she also co-wrote the screenplay, produced the film as well as wrote the original song for the film! She also caught pneumonia while doing this film.. So talk about real passion and commitment to a film... Just the way I like it! The song by the way, is entitled "Lay your head down" and is sung by Sinead O'Connor, it was immensely snubbed by the Academy Award. Have a listen, you'll fall in love with it. My favorite song of the year in a film.

The second nomination went to Janet McTeer for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role". Personally, I think Glenn Close was much better but that does not mean I don't think Janet McTeer deserves her nomination. But then again, how do you compete with a five time Oscar nominee like Glenn Close? I am now officially a Janet McTeer fan. She was previously nominated for an Academy Award in 1999 for "Tumbleweeds". She's in for rough competition this year, however that seems to be the case most times with the "heavy" categories. If she won though, I would jump with joy!

It is also nominated for "Best Achievement in Makeup". Obviously the makeup is amazing. I certainly hope the film will win in at least one of the categories. "The Iron Lady" is tough competitor although I personally think the makeup for this film is much better. I wouldn't mind this film being nominated for "Best Picture of the Year" as well.

The more I think about it, the more I love this film. Other great performances by Brendan Gleeson, Aaron Johnson, Mia Wasikowska and a smaller role by the always great Jonathan Rhys Meyers!

The rating on IMDB is absolutely fucking pathetic. It deserves much better! It's a shame it didn't earn much at the box office either... It's quite low budget, 8 million dollars. Yes, it's hilarious that below 15 million dollars is considered "low budget" but quite understandable when so many actors get bigger pay checks than most "low budget" films cost to produce.

This is easily one of those films that simply NEEDS to be seen. It needs to be supported! I personally loved it but I can understand people who may not be very fond of this film. It's quite an unconventional story, but different is beautiful. For the love of god, be a little open! Try new and different kind of films... He seems like the kind of director every actor dreams of working with! Also, he's a genuine nerd like I am. Respect from a nerd to another. We are laughed at but people don't realize that we are cool in the making.

The story is about the maid of honor and a bridesmaid who compete over who's a better friend of the bride. Be sure to count on a major shit storm. Ahh ladies... you're so crazy... and that's why we love you!

It is written by Kristen Wiig, who I think is one of the greatest "Saturday Night Live" cast members of all time. She co-wrote it with Annie Mumolo, who also has a cool cameo. The film got a surprising Oscar nomination for "Best Writing, Original Screenplay" but an even more surprising Oscar nomination went to Melissa McCarthy in the category of "Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role"... while it's surprising in the sense that comedy actresses usually don't get nominated for an Academy Award, it still isn't. She's easily the best thing about the film and brings so such warmth to the character as well. She's incredibly likable.

The cast is quite awesome, There's the lovely Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Matt Lucas, Rebel Wilson, Chris O'Dowd, Jon Hamm and more! Sadly it is also two-time Academy Award nominee Jill Clayburgh's last film. But I'm sure it would make her proud... and a little disgusted at times. Absolutely.

Now, I've already watched the film twice, I enjoyed it so much... many keep complaining it's disgusting, and sure my balls dropped a little when I saw the film but it's absolutely funny. Some complain that it's too much of a "chick flick" but I enjoyed it very much. And I'm a big macho man who only cried to "The Lion King" once. Men can and should be able to enjoy this film as well.

See it, you won't regret it! You'll only regret not being able to whipe away that one or two scenes... Also, please don't make a sequel. That would be the most unnecessary thing since "The Hangover Part II". Please don't let the greed make you produce another sequel that won't be all that funny and has a slight possibility of hurting the first film in the making as well.. It really doesn't deserve that. Don't touch it.

My rating: 8/10

My review of "Margin Call"

This is director and writer J.C. Chandor's first Hollywood film and it's a complete homerun! What an amazing film for a "first". Absolutely brilliantly written, it is even nominated for an Academy Award in the category "Best Writing, Original Screenplay". Unfortunately it's in for some tough competition. But the film is very brilliantly written, very sharp and edgy. Some of the dialogues sting in your ears when you hear them being acted out so very well.

The films is a drama/thriller based on the final 24 hours during the first stages of the financial crisis. We're shown the very ugly way and truth of how rich people toy with our money. Yet they still get to walk away with big bonuses because in today's society, bad behaviou is accepted and supported. Surely you would have thought someone can't make a movie about the financial crisis without pissing a few people off by making it too "cheesy"... well, J.C. Chandor could and he did. Regardless of him winning the Oscar or not, he is one to keep your eyes on in the future!

The cast contains many heavy hitters, there's Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci (who's brilliant in everything he does) Paul Bettany, Zachary Quinto, Simon Baker, Penn Badgley and Demi Moore. "Gossip Girl" alumni Penn Badgley is surprisingly good with his emotions and Demi Moore is easily replaceable. Her role was actually meant for Carla Gugino, who if she were cast, would be better, I'm convinced.

Now, you're probably thinking to yourself, with this being a movie about the economy, there's going to be a lot of economical mumbo jumbo talk that you won't understand... While there are "grown up" words, J.C. Chandor has found a way for you to fully understand this film. Thanks to the great ways of a brilliant director and writer.

An amazing and impressive Hollywood debut from an up-and-coming star of a director. This is either a movie that's going to bore you or get you excited... I'm in the second category personally. You have to give much credit to J.C. Chandor. While it's not fully a masterpiece, I just can't praise him enough. See this film!

My rating: 7,8/10

My review of "Anonymous"

Another visually beautiful poster of 2011. This is one of those "what if" films that plays with the conspiracy theory that William Shakespeare in fact did not write his own material but only took credit for them. And it's a damn interesting and exciting film!

The film is directed by Roland Emmerich, which comes as quite a surprise being that Emmerich usually directs "end of the world" type of films like "2012" and "Independence Day". Much praise to Emmerich though for this amazing little film. I say little because it was treated quite poorly at the box office, it was in fact a flop. On it's budget of 30 million dollars it only made back about 15 million dollars worldwide. Which is quite sad being that this film really is great! I'd even say better than great!

Sure it's an "unconventional" plot, but that's what's exciting about it. It's quite a ballsy film. Much more respect to Roland Emmerich due to the fact that he produced the film entirely himself. He had been saving up his money from past projects and shoved it all into this production so that the studios couldn't control him. I must say I admire that tremendously! That alone should make you want to support this film more, I know it makes me want to.

The storytelling is quite amazing, it's told in such a different way, the way the film is built up is interesting. It starts of by an older man, in modern time, telling the story in front of a large audience and then it takes us back in time to the era the story is set in. The editing for that specific scene is very clever, the way those two scenes emerge.

The acting is brilliant. A very interesting thing about this film is that Joely Richardson plays the role of a young Queen Elizabeth I and her real life mother, Oscar Winner Vanessa Redgrave plays the older Queen Elizabeth I. I just love that about the casting! We can also see Rhys Ifans, Sebastian Armesto, David Thewlis, Edward Hoff, Xavier Samuel and Jamie Campbell Bower. Rafe Spall, son of actor Timothy Spall plays William Shakespeare brilliantly!

It is nominated for an Academy Award in the category "Best Achievement in Costume Design" and rightfully so. It has a very big shot at winning.

It may seem a little too dragged out to some, as it did to me. If it were all a little more compact it would be running much more smoothly. But it's still a very entertaining movie and I advise you all to see it.. preferable in a legal way to support the great Roland Emmerich. While it's not a masterpiece, it's still a damn fine film!

My rating: 7,7/10

My review of "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"

One of the greatest casts of 2011 in one of the greatest films of the year. The cast is flawless and performs so very well in this film.. The star of the magic show is Gary Oldman, nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role", who I think deserves the Academy Award nomination because he plays his role brilliantly. It's easily one of the "cult characters" of 2011. By the way, how fucking ridiculous is it that this is Gary Oldman's first Oscar nomination? He should be having so many nominations by now or even wins! Gary Oldman to me is the ultimate actor, he changes his voice for most of the movies he does and when his look is changed, you just kind of have to look closely to see if you're really watching Gary Oldman or not. He's a chameleont.. although, I can't help but think that he's almost overshadowed by some of the brilliant performances! The impressive cast includes John Hurt, Mark Strong, Toby Jones, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch as well as "newcomer" David Dencik. Let us not forget Tom Hardy, another brilliant thing about the film.

This is director Tomas Alfredson's first English film. Though the film is great, I can't help but think that the editing and sound editing is a little sloppy at times, which is quite a shame. Beside Gary Oldman being nominated for an Academy Award, the film is also nominated in two different categories... "Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score" as well as "Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay".

The film is about spy veteran George Smiley who's being forced out of his semi-retirement to uncover a mole working within MI6. Now the story does sound quite simple although the film isn't as simple. The dialogue and the script might end up messing with your head a little bit, there are a lot of names involved for you to keep track of. But at the end of the film, your mind will be racing and much of it is explained right away. Some things you'll only realize made sense a little later, when you re-think a few things. Yes, it's one of those films. So if you're one of those people who don't know anything about film and always say that you never want to "think" while watching a film, this is not for you.

This is one of those movies that might have you a little bored in the beginning, but once that stone is set in motion, it will leave you on the edge of your seat towards the ending. I highly recommend it.

My rating: 8,1/10

My review of "The Ides of March"

First of all, this movie has one of the smartest and coolest movie posters I think I've ever seen. Now on to the movie. It is directed by George Clooney, who also stars in it and wrote it along with Grant Heslov and Beau Willimon. I must say I loved this movie! This just proves what a talent George Clooney can be, off camera as well... I think it's easily one of the greatest films of 2011. But I'm sure people have split opinions on this film because of it's political content. I'm not a democrat, I'm not a republican, I just do not support any side. I don't support politics. I just think there's no winning in politics. You gotta give this film a lot of credits for being able to turn the play into such a great movie. And then there's the amazing cast, besides George Clooney there's one of my favorite actors, Ryan Gosling and then we have Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Jeffrey Wright and more.

This movie is based on the play "Farragut North" and is about dirty politics, yes, one of those films.. but this one is actually quite smart. It's a story about democrats vs. republicans and them using all the dirty ways to beat each other in the final stages of the presidential campaign.

It's also very well acted, thanks to all the amazing people involved in it. Ryan Gosling is easily, for me, the greatest thing about this film and after him comes Evan Rachel Wood, so beautiful, so talented. There's really not much negative things to say about this movie.. I hate politics and politicians with all my heart, maybe that's why I enjoyed this movie? Seeing politicians in a hot mess brought me great satisfaction it seems.

This films is nominated for an Academy Award in the category "Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published" and though it has rough competition it should not be excluded. I'd say it has a pretty good chance.

The film is quite exciting but might be predictable to some right away, especially if you watch the trailer... So it's your choice if you want to see the trailer, if you haven't already... But the somewhat predictable story is saved by the sharp writing and brilliant acting, though don't underestimate the film, it may leave you with some unexpected twists and turns..

My rating: 8,2/10

My review of "The Tree of Life"

This has got to be one of the most unique films I've ever seen... and writing a review for this film is anything but easy. This is either one of those films people will love or really despise, which category am I in? To tell you the truth, neither. Now some people are gonna say this movie makes no sense and to them it doesn't. But the thing is, it sticks to your mind. I saw this film two days ago and did not want to write a review right away because I felt I needed it to soak in a little. I needed to process what I had just witnessed, because it really is a unique film. When I studied filmmaking, I stumbled upon a very interesting thought on film, and I do not remember who said it, do forgive. Basically it said, if a movie is on your thoughts for more than 24 hours, it's a good movie. "The Tree of Life" has been in my mind twice as long, no, that doesn't make it a fucking brilliant film. That makes it unique and very ballsy filmmaking. Because that's what I think "The Tree of Life" is. Kudos to Terrence Malick for doing something different, for telling a story in a way that has people talking still and will have people talking for years to come, especially if it wins an Academy Award.

Well, actually, it's two stories in one.. one is the story about the beginning of time, how it all was created. The second story is about a family with a strict father, played by the brilliant Brad Pitt, and a quite, naive mother, played by the breakout star of 2011, Jessica Chastain. Then of course we get to see their kids grow up and be taught a few of hard lessons by their father. These two stories are webbed together.. for some reason. There's a lot of religious mumbo jumbo involved too appearantly.

The film is nominated for three Academy Awards. The cinematography is absolutely brilliant, breathtaking and is frankly a solid win. The cinematography, the cosmic scenes reminds me of "2001: A Space Odyssey" right away. But the other two categories, which is "Best Achievement in Directing" and "Best Motion Picture of the Year" are discussable.

I'm gonna have to say I was quite angry when I was watching the film and a bit confused, it would just jump up and down in editing, you would see a mountain and then a cut to an office building etc. I'm pretty sure editing this movie must have been living hell for the editor. However, this film reminds me of "The Fountain", although I enjoyed "The Fountain" much more. I would actually advise you to rather watch that one. It's one of my favorite films of all time.

I can't help to think that this film is a lot of wasted potential.. I personally think Brad Pitt was the greatest thing about this movie. He was intimidating as hell playing the strict father and I actually think he rather deserves an Oscar nomination for his role in this than for "Moneyball". In the first few scenes where Brad Pitt appears, he displays more emotions than he does in the entire film that is "Moneyball". Although don't get me wrong, he was great in "Moneyball". Then there's Jessica Chastain who is great as always, truly a star who will be massive in the future, she's in everything! Sean Penn plays the troublemaking son when he's older but it feels like they've wasted his time by using such a great actor for such a blank role. The child actors were all amazing as well..

The only thing you can do is to actually watch the film yourself and then give an opinion on it.. but don't say I didn't warn you. The thing with "The Tree of Life" is I think it has a lot of similarities to "The Fountain" because "The Fountain" too wasn't really that accepted when it hit the cinemas, but then people watched it more and realized how different it is and how we should celebrate the beauty of difference. Though, if some people had trouble understanding "Inception", which I had no trouble to do, you are in for a trip that's going to make your head spin and will leave you cross-eyed. No matter if you liked this movie or not, you have to give it much credit. Acknowledge the film for what it is, because this really is art, just not the right amount of art for everyone.

My rating: 6,9/10

My review of "Beginners"

When you're watching a movie with the theme of homosexuality, you can't help but think finding any hints of homophobia. So is this film homophobic? In my opinion not at all. It's the story about Oliver Fields, played by Ewan McGregor, who finds out his father Hal Fields, played by the awesome Christopher Plummer (who's oscar nominated for this film), is gay and that he has terminal cancer. Obviously, as Hal was married to Oliver's mother, this comes as a shock to him and he has to go through a completely new experience and see his father as a new man. He has to come to term with his homosexuality, he has to prepare to see his father deteriorate in front of his eyes... At times it may seem a little homophobic but it's mostly because he's seeing his father as a new man and thinks he's been living a lie, which makes him more angry, you can fully understand his character. Though it is an amazing film for both gay and straight. It's a movie about love and acceptance and so much more...

I think Christopher Plummer is brilliant, give this man an Oscar already! His chances are big... as they should always be. He's a living legend who's only now getting the recognition he should have been getting years ago! But Ewan McGregor is just as amazing in the film and should be getting recognition as well.. Mélanie Laurent is charming as ever! Goran Visnjic makes me realize what a great and loveable actor he really is!

This film is great, I loved it. It's actually one of the most unique films I can ever recall seeing, mostly because of the brilliant narration by Ewan McGregor as well as the unique way of telling the story by director Mike Mills, who also wrote this film. The film is actually based on director, writer Mike Mills' experiences with his own father who also came out as gay and went into a relationship with a man after Mike's mother had died.. So it's a very personal film for Mike Mills.

Oh, also, the Jack Russell is a legend in this film, to me, easily one of the best things about the film!

The film is not for for everyone however. People still have a problem with seeing homosexuality on film, I personally have NO hard time doing so and I'm absolutely comfortable with my sexuality. I'm happy more and more films about homosexuality are not about targetting them with bullying etc. It's looking quite well considering it's being more and more acceptable on film even. But there are always those people...

It's absolutely worth a look but in the end, what you really remember about this film is Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor. But I love low budget films, a film is considered low budget until it hits the 15 million dollar mark (yes, it's silly isn't it?) and this film "only" cost 3,2 million dollars to make.

It should absolutely be watched for the sake of Christopher Plummer, a legend, a star, a true deserving Academy Award nominee. But Ewan McGregor got snubbed of the recognition he should have gotten... It's quite depressing, but that's life...

My rating: 7,9/10

My review of "Warrior"

Now hear me out.. I think this is one of the top films of 2011. Why? Well, let's start out with the fact that it contains as much emotions as all "Rocky" films combined into one. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton will blow you away. If you haven't seen Tom Hardy in "Bronson", you should not be allowed to even have an opinion on Tom Hardy as an actor, it's the role of his career. When you'll see this film, you will realize why Tom Hardy is becoming a household name and why he was cast in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" as "Bane". This guy will easily get the fame he very well deserves! What's spectacular is that Tom Hardy suffered a broken toe, a broken finger and broken ribs during the filming of this movie. So what you see in this film.. is really what you get! But much praise to Joel Edgerton as well who actually tore his MCL in his knee while filming which resulted in halting fight scenes for six weeks!

But the real star is Nick Nolte. I really did not think Nick Nolte was going to receive an Academy Award nomination because the Academy has this really annoying habbit of not acknowleding actors for the kind of roles that they should be acknowledged for. Nick Nolte's acting, especially in that one scene in a hotel room, will literally make you say... "Damn...!" out of pure impressment. The interesting thing about Nick Nolte is that the studio did not feel comfortable with having him be a part of this film, but the writers, Gavin O'Connor and Anthony Tambakis (who happen to be the neighbours of Nick Nolte) stood by their word and by true camaraderie, they earned him an Academy Award nomination in the end.

Director Gavin O'Connor also co-wrote the screenplay which is what makes this thing so much more awesome! It's on IMDB's top 250 at # 145 and very well deserves to be on there! The fight scenes are easily some of the most realistic fights I've ever witnessed on film! The fights are filmed in a very documentary like fashion, which makes it all that more authentic.

Now to the sad thing about this film... it was a box office failure. I personally blame the marketing team. The trailer is absolutely horrible, it spoils the whole film and reveals things that should not be revealed. Therefore, I have NOT attached the trailer to the review of this film, if you think you've seen the greatest film based on any sport, please don't look up a trailer and just trust me on this one... Just get a hold of it and watch it. You will thank me later.

This film might easily become a cult film in the future but that's how it works in the world of movies. Many don't realize the greatness of a film right away. Audiences will have to watch this film and realize the greatness of it in good time so that it will one day be considered a "cult film". Or maybe they just have to let it "sink in"?

This is easily one of the best films I've ever seen... and that alone should say a lot.

My rating: 10/10 all the way!

My review of "A Better Life"

Before seeing this film, I had zero expectations. I had heard there was some Oscar buzz so I thought I'd check it out.. and I am happy I did! When I saw the film, I thought to myself, Demián Bichir just played the role of his life. His performance literally moved me to tears and that doesn't happen very often. His acting is very emotional yet it's so very genuine, there are no faux emotions. You can imagine my happiness and content when I found out he had been nominated for an Academy Award. Whenever that happens to actors who aren't exactly known world wide, it always makes me genuinely happy for them because most of the time, all the same actors get recognized and nominated for an Oscar. This time, they acknowledged a true underdog and I'm happy they did. The ending will make all the right emotions run through your body, that is if you're human at least.

It's the story about Carlos Galindo, a gardener in LA who is doing all he can to keep his teenage son, Luis, away from gangs. He works hard and tries giving his son the life he himself, never had. When Carlos' truck is stolen, they have to do everything they can to find it.

The thing about this movie is though, it's quite disappointed in the fact that it's mediocre. The true thing that makes the film stand out a little is in fact, Demián Bichir. I am not saying the other actors are bad, not at all, they just don't make a very lasting impression on you. It's directed by the awesome Chris Weitz, writer and director of "About a Boy".. unfortunately, Chris Weitz did not have any involvement in writing this film, if he had, I'm sure I'd be writing a completely different review, it would be much more powerful. However, at times, it gives you great adrenaline. Likeable characters that make you really root for these guys.

If you should want to see this film, a very good reason would be you'd be introduced to Demián Bichir, a very deserving Academy Award nominee. I hope to see much more of him soon! It's worth checking out.

My rating: 6,5/10

My review of "The Descendants"

I like Alexander Payne. I think he's really interesting, great director and knowing that he writes his films makes it so much better. I'm also one of those people who loves George Clooney, I think he's one of America's treasures. I think he's like a bottle of fine wine who keeps getting better and better with age, although I can understand how people may think he's overrated being that he's cast in a lot of movies. I personally think he's an amazing actor. It's not just his physical acting, there's something about Clooney that makes you think of those old time movie stars, Cary Grant perhaps? But do I think he deserves his Academy Award? Yes, I do actually. Is he replaceable? Maybe you may think so, but he does play the character brilliantly. The thing is, George Clooney's character goes through a lot of very random and hard situations and I think he plays it all very well. Someone mentioned this is George Clooney's best performance of this career.. It's easily one of my favorites.

The film is about Matt King, a lawyer who also happens to be the sole trustee of a 25,000 acree family trust. He's also the father of two daughters and gets full responsibility when his wife gets into an accident that results in her falling into a coma. In the film he hasn't paid as much attention to his daughters as he would have liked to which makes it much harder for him to take care of them. He finds out his wife had actually been cheating on him and that sets of numerous random situations he's thrown into. You got to admire his character though for being strong and not losing his cool through out the whole thing. After all, he is doing all the best he can, even with raising his daughters. He worked a lot because I'm sure he wanted to provide his daughters with everything they ever wished for, most times though kids and teenagers won't seem to realize that right away.

However, the actresses who played his daughters, Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller should be acknowledged as well. They were fantastic, acting with great expressions and feelings. Nick Krause, who plays Sid in the movie provides us with laughter as his interractions with George Clooney's as well as all the other characters are quite priceless.

I liked the movie a lot, however it might not be for everyone. The thing is, what hurts the film is it was predictable, although what saves the film is the amazing, sharp writing as well as the great acting. I think Matthew Lillard was easily replaceable though.

Is it worth all the Academy Award nominations? I'll let you be the judge of that, you really can't say there's no originality...

The film makes you happy yet sad at the same time.. It reminds you what the characters are actually going through yet it makes you smile because you realize that the tragedy brings them all together... It's just one of those films you'll either hate or love. I loved it and I think it's worth a look.

My rating: 7,8/10

My review of "The Help"

The films is set in the 1960's, it's about black maids who decide to stand up against being treated like crap. This all with the help of Emma Stone's character by the name of Skeeter Phelan who plays a struggling journalist that decides to write a controversial book about these two maids she befriends... Makes you disgusted with how the world used to be.

If I had to use one sentence to describe this movie, I would say "This movie is like cheese and crackers". Now, let me explain.. the "cheese" stands for the cheesy-nes that I feel when I'm watching this movie... I can't help but think that there's a feeling I've seen this story over and over again. The "crackers" stand for the things that make this movie stand out from all the other movies that are like this one...

Exhibit A. Viola Davis - Such an incredible actress filled with so many emotions. The slightest facial expression she does, makes you drawn to her. She's a joy to watch, always. The first time I saw her, was in "Doubt", the film that earned her the first Academy Award nomination. I'm very happy that she's nominated, it's a tought category though and everyone has just as much of a chance to win. I am rooting for Viola though..

Exhibit B. Octavia Spencer - I heard, and I don't know if this is true, that her role was written specifically for her. It wouldn't surprise me, she absolutely NAILS it! Another worthy Oscar nominee.

Exhibit C. Jessica Chastain - So incredibly lovable in this film, makes you just want to give her a big hug. A very deserving Oscar nomination, great emotional acting.

Exhibit D. Cicely Tyson - The old woman, Constantine Jefferson in the film. She played the maid of Emma Stone, who got fired. Her role just makes you very emotional, she plays it brilliantly, even though it was so short, it was one of the most memorable things about the film.

Now I'm not saying the other actors were bad, but these four really stood out and I think they deserved their Oscar nominations, Cicely Tyson did not receive one however but to me, did a golden performance. Emma Stone was great, as always. Bryce Dallas Howard made a good villain. What is it about "The Help" that bugs me? To be honest with you... I can't say... The writing may be a little cheesy from time to time but it works... The director, Tate Taylor, did a great job... Maybe it was a little too dragged out?

I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's worth a look but I can understand how it might leave some people disappointed.. But I can also understand people who liked the film.

My rating: 7,2/10

My review of "Midnight in Paris"

Oh boy, this movie is all a movie experience should be about... I've been a fan of Woody Allen and I've always wanted to act in a Woody Allen film ever since I saw "Annie Hall" but I didn't expect much before watching the film. I don't hate his newer films, it's just not much of the Woody Allen I want to see.. This film seems to be so different from Woody Allen's work yet it seems like he's gone back to his roots.. It's smart, funny and witty, just like the older Woody Allen films..

I can't help but compare Owen Wilson to a young Woody Allen. He sounds, acts and has manerisms just like Woody Allen! The cast is absolutely mind blowing: Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Alison Pill, Tom Hiddleston, Kathy Bates, Carla Bruni, Marion Cotillard and more! However, my favorites are Corey Stoll who plays Ernest Hemingway and does so brilliantly might I add! But my absolute favorite, who makes the movie top notch to me is Adrien Brody as Salvador Dali. Absolutely laugh out loud funny! It just proves how funny, yes you read that correctly, Adrien Brody can be.

This movie is pure magic, it's the story about American screenwriter Gil Pender who comes to Paris with his fiancé Inez in search of some inspiration for his new novel.. After heading out to take a walk in Paris, he discovers the magic of Paris at midnight, he's thrown back in time and gets to meet all of his favorite writers... It's quite an adventure! Unfortunately though, I don't know if you may want to call this a spoiler, we don't get to know if the whole thing is only a figment of his imagination or not... I would most certainly think that's the way it should be seen...

Woody Allen wrote and directed this film but it would be fun to see him in a little cameo, I miss Woody Allen, the actor. The Academy Award for Best Writing will most likely go to Woody, I know I'd love to see that...

There's not much more to be said about this film, it's movie magic, a true gem that will leave you happy after seeing this film... It might be predictable but it still to me one of the best films of the year, especially when you don't have big expectations before seeing it. Also, it will leave you most likely wanting to head to Paris.

My rating: 7,7/10

My review of "Moneyball"

Now I admit I don't know much about baseball, but I don't have anything against it... It's just, growing up in Europe, you don't get much of it... Althought that doesn't mean this movie is directed toward US audiences only... I personally love Brad Pitt but I think this movie should have had a lower budget than it actually did... But it's great to see Brad Pitt producing as well.

It's the true story about Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A's and Peter Brand (Paul DePodesta in real life). They figure out how to put together a team on a lower budget based on computer-generated analysis. It's incredibly well written, all thanks to the brilliant Steven Zaillian, Stan Chervin and Aaron Sorkin of course.. Director Bennett Miller is also one to look out for, he previously directed "Capote" and it's nice to see him work with Philip Seymour Hoffman again. Miller is a very interesting director who seems to choose his projects very carefully, much respect to him for that.

Jonah Hill is great but I wouldn't call him spectacular in the film, although he's a good guy and I wish him all the best at the Academy Awards. I also want to acknowledge an actor by the name of Reed Thompson who plays the younger version of Brad Pitt's character, Billy Beane. This is his second film and I'm sure he'll become a big name in the future, very likeable on screen. Also much praise to Kerris Dorsey who plays the daughter in the film, her singing really lifts the film as well. Keep your eyes open for director Spike Jonze who makes a cameo as the partner of Billy Beane's ex-wife.

Now for the main question, does Brad Pitt deserve the Oscar nomination? I say Yes. His acting is very subtle in the film, don't expect to see very emotional acting. But Brad Pitt's acting is just that, it's not bad, it's... the perfect amount of acting, not too much power or emotions thrown into the whole thing. The ending is one of the finest endings I think I've ever seen, it's flawless, the song just literally describes the whole film and the story you've seen on screen, perfectly closed of with Brad Pitt's teary eye to the vocals of Kerris Dorsey.. But I can't help thinking it's a little dragged out... especially when most of the film is dialogue but it's all such fine dialogue that I never got bored...

However I personally, think it isn't spectacular enough to be called the movie of the year... However it is really good but it's not a movie for everyone to enjoy, especially if you don't like baseball. But do know that it's much more than just baseball... It's worth checking out, if you want something with real mind to it, rather than the same old big budget action films with cheesy lines and big explosions.

My rating: 7,5/10
